What I have learned today [2015/5/9]

1. Your kitchen faucet and drawers are quite contaminated as we don't clean them often. Ok, better start cleaning :p

2. MasterCard uses big data to increase its marketing efficiency. Hope they use it to decrease overspending...

3. Denmark is trying to phase out cash. This will save money, make money laundering harder, and increase tax revenues. But what would happen if the electricity is out? In case of a disaster, people will not be able to buy goods. In such sense, physical cash will not disappear completely.

4. Seafood is not yet sustainable even with certification. We can help this by consuming less seafood substituting with fresh water fish or other types of food.

5. Math researchers use proof assistants to ensure that their work does not have serious flaws.

6. Purring may be done to strengthen the bones. I should start purring too~

7.Never assume anything when you clean data :p

 2. Many firms have weird names such as Blonder Tongue Laboratories and New Found Shrimp....Yup, one of the things, you learn when you clean the data a lot.

3. Really, wonder how to data base firms verify data...Yes, there is quite lot of mistakes...

4. Garage sales are quite interesting and if you have some time, you can really get things cheaply and even make a profit by reselling.

5. Net-net sort of works in international markets where there is some inefficiency.

6. You can speed up matching if you do it in chunks...Yeah...I knew this but always relied on brute power until my computer froze...

7. Tesla batteries could really make remote living quite more comfortable.

What I have learned today [2015/4/30]

1. IPO data has a lot of errors. When combining data sets make sure that the errors do not compound because it will make a mess!

2. Defense companies do not have much fixed cost. It is all variable and part of the pension is paid by the government! wow! Not too enthusiastic in supporting defense companies although they are necessary.

3. BLS is quite independent from the executive branch. I sort of the head that feeling but it is nice to know that it is run by career bureaucrats.

4. Many IPOs are acquired quite soon.

5. India's GDP is 80% consumed by Indians so as long as India grows (which it is), expect to see lot of billion dollar companies :D
